Africa is confronted with significant challenges, such as economic and social deprivation, as well as environmental challenges. Among these, climate change stands out as the most significant, exacerbating the already vulnerable sectors of the continent. Climate change has contributed in forced migrations, exacerbated conflicts over land and water access, escalated poverty levels, and deteriorated health conditions for the majority of people on the continent. To mitigate and adapt sustainably, African states and non-state actors within the continent must collaborate and take joint initiatives to advocate for sustainable approaches to climate mitigation and adaptation strategies. These initiatives should align with locally acceptable practices that yield sustainable benefits. Africans must adopt critical approaches to contribute to the definition and decolonization of the climate change discourse at the international level, avoiding actions that could slow down the continent’s progress.
